In Bengal, Mahalaya marks the beginning of Durga Puja festivities. Mahalaya is the day when the goddess Durga is believed to have descended to earth.
This Mahalaya is organized by Ananda Mandir. The organization’s focus is on preserving and fostering the religious, educational and socio-cultural activities of the Bengali community in the tri-state (NJ-NY-PA) region. Each day, a wide range of programs and initiatives made possible by the donations of the community are happening at Ananda Mandir. They are building and expanding their facilities to ensure these activities occur in a world-class facility and that their traditions are sustained for the next generation.
